Mr. Chester Young Park, Chairman
Marine House Association, U.S.A.
3850 Wilshire Blvd., #200
Los Angeles, CA 90010
Dear Mr. Park,
I want to thank you sincerely for the role you and the Marine House
Association, U.S.A. played in planning and facilitating my recent trip
to the Republic of Korea. I am sure that my fellow USMC Korean war
veterans who accompanied me on the trip would agree that it was a
memorable experience that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.
Our Korean hosts could not have been more gracious and it was very
rewarding to receive their obvious appreciation for the role played by
the USMC in the 1950 – 1953 war. In my opinion, the Korean people are
unique in displaying their depth of appreciation for our assistance in
contrast to the many other nations who have benefited from similar
military and financial cooperation from the USA in the defense of their
liberty and way of life.
I was very impressed with the incredible economic progress the Republic
of Korea has achieved in the last half century. It was astonishing to
see the differences in the nation that has occurred since I was there
during the war. It is a tribute to the diligence and dedication of the
Korean people that they have achieved such progress in such a short
time. The Republic of Korea is a major economic force in the world and a
valuable and treasured ally to the United States of America.
In my view, the goals of our recent visit to the Republic of Korea were
at least twofold. First, to expose the group of USMC Korean War veterans
to the deep appreciation and thanks displayed to us by the Korean
people for our role in the war and, secondly, to strengthen the existing
bond between the Republic of Korea Marine Corp and the USMC. Both of
these goals were definitely achieved and, in addition, we had great fun
and made many new friends.
Again, I want to express my deep appreciation to you and our Korean
colleagues for providing me with an experience of a lifetime and many
treasured memories.
Sincerely
Eugene (Gene) H. Gregory, Ph.D.
